In winter, when temperatures drop, we all instinctively put frozen desserts away at the bottom of the freezer in favor of richer, warmer, more comforting pastries.

And yet... there's nothing inconsistent about eating ice cream in winter.

At La Compagnie du Mochi, we're convinced that iced mochi is not a seasonal dessert, but an everyday snack that can be enjoyed at different times of the day, whatever the season. And winter is full of them.

In many cultures, eating iced food in winter is not unusual.
In Japan, cold desserts are eaten all year round. Originally, the Japanese ate these glutinous rice preparations on special occasions, notably the festive season.

Its preparation is a festive ritual, as mochi is considered a vessel for the spirits of deities. Over the years, mochi has become increasingly popular. Today, mochi is eaten as pastry, in soups or grilled and covered with sauce (known as mitarashi dango).

In Italy, too, gelato never really disappears from the table, even in the middle of January. What changes is not so much the temperature of the dessert, but rather the way it's eaten. Aujouoday, iced mochi is an ideal alternative to classic desserts and traditional snacks. Its success is due to its ability to combine practicality, freshness and intense pleasure.

In a single bite, it avoids the hot/cold contrast, offering a real taste experience and a balance that makes all the difference. Unlike classic ice cream, iced mochi is wrapped in a soft, slightly elastic rice paste. This texture plays a key role in tempering the cold, softening the taste and making the experience much rounder in the mouth.

It's an ideal compromise, as it's lighter than a pastry, more fun than yoghurt and more sophisticated than a simple ice cream in a tub. Frozen mochi ticks all the boxes of the modern sweet tooth, and has become the must-have snack!

Its portionable format is also very practical. It allows us to enjoy it without utensils, directly with our fingers, in just one or two bites. No crumbs, no cutlery to wash, no sweet excess: just what you need for a controlled pleasure break. It's the dessert with the right, balanced portion that lets you indulge without heaviness, especially after an already generous winter meal.

The result is a fresh, melting, comforting dessert, even when it's cold outside.

Iced mochi becomes the perfect companion: here are 5 ways to enjoy iced mochi in winter

1. During an afternoon of work or study with a hot drink

Mochi with tea, matcha or coffee creates a very pleasant contrast. Hot and cold respond without canceling each other out.

2. As a light dessert after a hearty meal

Raclette, fondue, stews... winter is rarely synonymous with lightness.
Mochi is the perfect way to end a meal on a fresher note, without going overboard.

3. Café gourmand revisited

Iced mochi is a natural addition to any gourmet café, either in place of or in addition to traditional mini-pastries.

4. A cocooning break during a moment of relaxation on your own

In winter, we slow down and take quieter, gentler breaks. A mochi then becomes a small pleasure to be savored on no particular occasion.

5. To get away from it all, even in the dead of winter

Some flavors, such as matcha, the coco or the Dubai chocolate invite you to travel. Even when it's gray outside, mochi can be an escape to somewhere else. It's the perfect escape for a chic aperitif or a special brunch with friends.
