ICE CREAM MOCHI IN A FEW STEPS

The former CEO of the American company Mikawaya, France Hashimoto is recognized for being the creator of the modern version of mochi but also for having introduced it to the North American market.

Originally, Hashimoto's husband, Joel Friedman, came up with the idea of coating ice cream in small mochi rice cakes. Frances Hashimoto took her husband's idea and made it into a "fusion" dessert that became popular in the United States and elsewhere. Hashimoto has declined seven flavors in its production lines. It was in 1993 that Mikawaya began producing frozen mochi in the United States and declared itself to be the first American company to manufacture this dessert.
